Madhyamik Textual Writing Guide
In Madhyamik, generally, there are 10 types of writing. These are: newspaper report, summary writing, notice, biography, story, paragraph, processing, dialogue, and formal and informal letter writing. Let’s start with the report writing.
📰 1. Newspaper Report Writing
A newspaper report is a factual description of an event written in formal language.
Format:
- Headline (in capital letters)
- Byline (optional – e.g., By a Staff Reporter)
- Body (What, Where, When, Who, Why, How)
- Tense: Simple Past

✍️ 2. Summary Writing
A summary is a short version of a long passage written in your own words.
Steps:
- Read twice carefully.
- Pick main points.
- Omit examples and repetitions.
- Use simple present tense.
- Keep to one-third of the original length.

Write a summary of the following passage (within 100 words):
Passage:
Egyptian kings are called Pharaohs. Tutankhamun was an Egyptian king who ruled between 1332–1323 BC. Tutankhamun was very young when he became the king. He was only ten years old when he ascended the throne. He was the son of Akhenaten, who was also a Pharaoh. As the king, Tutankhamun undertook many building projects. These building projects were centered around Thebes and Karnak. Tutankhamun built many temples and monuments. At that time many temples were in ruins. Tutankhamun ordered them to be rebuilt. Tutankhamun had various physical disabilities. He suffered from ill health for a long period in his life. Tutankhamun required the support of a cane to walk because of his physical disabilities.
In ancient Egypt, the body of a Pharaoh was preserved after his death. This preserved body was known as a mummy. The preserved body of Tutankhamun was discovered by Howard Carter, an Englishman. He discovered Tutankhamun’s tomb in 1922. The tomb was nearly intact when it was discovered. The discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb attracted wide interest all over the world. The discovery sparked an interest in ancient Egypt.

Tutankhamun was an Egyptian Pharaoh who ruled from 1332 to 1323 BC. He became king at the age of ten and was the son of Akhenaten. He built and rebuilt many temples around Thebes and Karnak. Though weak and disabled, he ruled wisely. After his death, his body was preserved as a mummy. In 1922, Howard Carter discovered his tomb, which renewed global interest in ancient Egypt.

A notice gives official information about an event, meeting, or announcement.
Format:
- Institution name (Top)
- The word “NOTICE” (center)
- Date (left)
- Heading
- Body: purpose, date, time, venue, contact

A devoted follower of Gandhiji’s ideals, he inspired people with his writings and speeches. He authored many famous books, such as India Wins Freedom and Ghubar-e-Khatir. After independence, he became the first Education Minister of India. His birthday is celebrated as National Education Day to honour his contribution to education. This great leader passed away on 22 February 1958.

One day, a crow was sitting on a tree with a piece of meat in its beak. A hungry fox came there and saw the meat. The cunning fox wanted to get it. He said, “Oh, beautiful crow! You sing so sweetly. Please sing for me.” The crow understood his trick. It quickly placed the meat under its feet and started singing loudly. The fox was shocked to see his plan fail. Feeling ashamed, he left the place quietly.
Moral: Wisdom and presence of mind can defeat cunning tricks.
📄 6. Paragraph Writing
A paragraph expresses one idea only.
Structure:
- Topic sentence
- Supporting ideas
- Concluding line

English:
- Stick to one main idea.
- Use linking words (moreover, therefore).
- Avoid long sentences.

Benefits of Early Morning Exercises
Early morning exercise is one of the best habits for maintaining good health. It helps to keep the body fit and the mind fresh. In the early hours, the air is clean and full of oxygen, which gives us energy and freshness for the whole day. People who exercise regularly are active, disciplined, and cheerful in life. Morning walks or light jogging also prevent diseases and improve concentration. Hence, everyone, especially students, should make early morning exercise a part of their daily routine for a healthy and happy life.

A process shows how something is made or done step by step.
Format:
- Title

English:
- Always use passive voice.
- Use sequence words (first, next, finally).
- No personal pronouns.
- Keep within 80–100 words.

- সর্বদা passive voice ব্যবহার করো।
- first, then, finally এই ধরণের ক্রমবাচক শব্দ ব্যবহার করো।
- “I”, “we” ইত্যাদি ব্যবহার কোরো না।

Outline: Water boiled → tea leaves added → sugar and milk added → boiled again → strained → ready to serve.
Processing Writing – Madhyamik English Model
Tea is one of the most popular beverages in the world. To prepare tea, first, some water is taken in a kettle and boiled. When the water starts boiling, a little amount of tea leaves is added to it. Then sugar and milk are added as per taste. The mixture is boiled again for a few minutes. After that, it is poured through a strainer into cups. Thus, a hot cup of tea is ready to serve.
🗣️ 8. Dialogue Writing
A dialogue is a short, natural conversation between two persons.
Tips:
- New line for each speaker.
- Keep short and realistic.
- Use quotation marks properly.

English:
- Use 6–8 exchanges only.
- Maintain punctuation and spelling.
- Avoid unnecessary fillers.
- Word limit: 100–120.
